Extra, extra, read all about it! You don’t want to miss this one!

To all of our matcha lovers, this recipe is for YOU!

Introducing the Moringa Latte!

This Moringa latte tastes just like matcha, but without the caffeine, and with a ton of nutrients (listed below). It’s honestly like a homemade electrolyte drink! I am so excited to share it with you.

Moringa is rich in so many nutrients, like: vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, C, D and E and calcium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, magnesium, iron and copper.

Before we get started, I want to share something special about this recipe with you. I wanted this recipe to be made exactly like an authentic, Japanese-style, matcha drink. So I packed my bags, and Aila and I went over to our friend Meagan’s house. Meagan is a matcha enthusiast. She has done months and months, and hours and hours, of research on matcha, and has learned exactly what it takes to make the perfect, authentic, Japanese matcha latte. So allow this recipe to educate you on just what it takes to make the perfect matcha latte, Moringa style!!

This latte is a great way to start your mornings. It gives you the opportunity to put your time and love into your favorite drink, especially with it being one of the first things you put into your body. My advice? Just like you should do in life: take your time, enjoy the process, and slow down to mindfully enjoy it.

Note: to ensure authenticity and the best taste possible, the authentic recipe takes a few extra steps. You can easily skip/condense/change it up to make this more simple and quick. In case you run short on time, I am also putting an easier, quicker, version below for those of you that may not have time in the mornings to make the authentic version.

Note 2: I’m including recipes for both iced and warm versions.

Note 3: Moringa oxidizes and loses nutrients when exposed to sunlight. I’ve done the research to find one of the best Moringa powders on the market. If you want to buy a different Moringa, make sure: (1) if is bright green in color and (2) make sure the company doesn’t bake their Moringa to dry it. The optimal way of processing is to let Moringa leaves dry in the shade and grind them to a fine powder.

AUTHENTIC VERSION

EQUIPMENT YOU WILL NEED:

Note: if you’re feeling fancy, you can get a matcha kit, like this one, but definitely not necessary.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tsp Moringa powder (I buy this brand)

  • Pinch of monk sweetener (I buy this brand) OR 2 teaspoons of bamboo sweetener (sold exclusively in the office)

  • 1/8 tsp vanilla powder (I use this brand)

  • Pinch of sea salt (I use this brand)

  • 3-4 ice cubes (if you want it iced)

  • Hot water

  • Your favorite milk (we used organic cashew milk)

STEPS (FOR ICED LATTE)

  1. Using a sifter, sift 2 tsp of Moringa powder into a glass bowl. The purpose of the sifter is to make sure there are no clumps. Make sure there are no remaining clumps left in the sifter. If there are, press with a spoon through until completely through the strainer.

  2. Next, add in the monk sweetener, sea salt, vanilla powder and 2 tsp of hot water. You want just enough water to make a paste (pro tip: the optimal temperature is 175 degrees Fahrenheit, just boil water and let it sit for a couple of minutes, or don’t bring water to a full boil)

  3. Whisk the paste together until it is mixed well

  4. Add in 1/3 cup of hot water and whisk well, following a “z-stroke”, until mixed well. A z-stroke is repeatedly whisking in the form of the letter “Z”.

  5. Put 2-4 large ice cubes in your favorite drinking glass (depending on the size of your ice cubes)

  6. Pour the Moringa mixture on top of the ice cubes.

  7. Add about 1/2 cup of your favorite milk (more if desired) and give a little stir

  8. Serve and enjoy!

STEPS (FOR HOT LATTE)

  4. Add in 1/2 cup of hot water and whisk well, following a “z-stroke”, until mixed well. A z-stroke is repeatedly whisking in the form of the letter “Z”.

  5. Pour Moringa mixture into your favorite mug

  6. Froth or warm 1/2 cup of your desired milk and pour into mug, on top of Moringa mixture

  7. Serve and enjoy!

QUICK AND EASY VERSION

EQUIPMENT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Electric hand frother/mixer (I like this one). You can try to make it without these two, but it’s VERY challenging to use the quick method without the powder clumping together. I highly recommend the electric hand frother/mixer for this reason)

  • Optional: milk frother (I use this one)

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tsp Moringa powder (I buy this brand)

  • Pinch of monk sweetener (I buy this brand) OR 2 teaspoons of bamboo sweetener (sold exclusively in the office

  • 1/8 tsp vanilla powder (I use this brand)

  • Pinch of sea salt (I use this brand)

  • 3-4 ice cubes (if you want it iced)

  • Hot water

  • Your favorite milk (we used organic cashew milk)

QUICK AND EASY VERSION STEPS (ICED)

  1. Add Moringa powder, sweetener of choice, vanilla powder and sea salt into your favorite glass cup.

  2. Next, add in 2 tsp of hot water. You want just enough water to make a paste. “Eyeball” it, if that’s easier. Mix well with a whisk/fork. This step will help minimize clumping.

  3. Add in a little over 1/3 cup of warm water and mix well using an electric hand frother/mixer (this step is important to make sure there are ZERO clumps).

  4. Add in 2-4 ice cubes (depending on size)

  5. Pour 1/2 cup of desired milk on top (or more) and give it a little stir.

  6. Serve and enjoy!

  4. Froth/warm up 1/2 cup of desired milk and pour on top of Moringa mixture and give it a little stir

  5. Serve and enjoy!

I truly hope his recipe brings as much joy to your life as it does to ours. If you like this recipe, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
