Baking powder might seem pretty harmless, right?
Wrong.
Unfortunately, as with most things in this world, this is not the case. The ingredients in all grocery-store-sold baking powders are toxic. I have not found one that is sold in stores that is free of toxins. So, I make my own with three simple ingredients (recipe below). I make this in bulk so that I have enough for the month. Full disclosure: this is not my recipe. You’ll actually find it on the back of most Arrowroot starch bags.
Aluminum: Most baking powders sold at grocery stores contain large amounts of aluminum. If you don’t believe me, head to your local grocer and read the ingredients. Even the companies that advertise “no ADDED aluminum” are very misleading. This is truly just a marketing tactic meant to deceive you.
Corn Starch: Corn is one of the most genetically modified crops. It is also riddled with pesticides, specifically glyphosate. Corn starch is the main, active ingredient in baking powder. The replacement for corn starch is something called “Arrowroot Flour”, which comes from the tropical Arrowroot plant.
BAKING POWDER RECIPE:
INGREDIENTS:
1 tsp baking soda (I only buy Bob’s Red Mill, because just like traditional baking powder, traditional baking soda is also filled with toxins)
2 tsp cream of tartar (I buy this brand in bulk)
1 tsp arrowroot starch (I buy this brand)
DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients together in an airtight container. I use a whisk to make sure it is mixed very well.
Store in a cool, dry place (like a cupboard) and use as needed.
I hope this helps you transition into a healthier, toxin-free lifestyle.
God Bless,
Taylor
